Amazon has officially deployed the first vehicles from its largest-ever commercial order of electric heavy-duty trucks, integrating battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 vehicles into its German logistics network.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks delivered the initial fleet of 27 eActros 600 units to Amazon, marking the first phase of a landmark commercial contract signed in early 2025 for more than 200 vehicles. By the end of 2026, over 50 of these battery-electric long-haul trucks will be operating across German freight corridors.
The vehicles will be deployed primarily on middle-mile transport routes, moving inventory between regional fulfillment centres and urban distribution hubs. Equipped with a 621 kWh battery capacity and an in-house developed electric drive axle, the eActros 600 delivers an operational range of 500 kilometres on a single charge.
Key technical and investment highlights include:
- Charging Infrastructure Deployment: Amazon is installing specialized heavy goods vehicle charging stations across its European sites. The high-capacity systems can recharge the eActros 600 batteries from 20 to 80 per cent in just over an hour.
- Capital Commitments: The deployment forms part of Amazon’s broader plan to invest over €1 billion in European transport electrification, with more than €400 million targeted directly at German operations.
- Economic Footprint: Since 2021, Amazon has directed up to €4 billion toward low-carbon initiatives in Germany. Economic impact modeling by Frontier Economics estimates these investments have supported up to 36,000 jobs and added €3 billion to German GDP.
Andreas Marschner, Vice President of Worldwide Sustainable Operations at Amazon, stated: “The handover of these vehicles is a milestone for the electrification of our transportation network. Electric solutions have already been widely used for some time in last-mile package delivery to customers. With the high-performance electric trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, we can now make even longer transport routes between fulfillment centers and urban areas more sustainable.”

The fact that Amazon relies on our vehicles underscores the confidence in our technology and also shows that the electrification of heavy-duty transport is increasingly becoming reality.”
