Amazon launches global sustainability deep tech accelerator

E-commerce and cloud computing giant Amazon has launched the Amazon Sustainability Deep Tech Accelerator, establishing a global platform to evaluate and deploy emerging technologies across its hardware, cloud infrastructure, and consumer product divisions.

The program offers deep tech enterprises working in materials science, advanced manufacturing, and energy systems a single engagement path to test and validate their solutions for potential commercial adoption across Amazon Devices, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Amazon Private Brands.

The accelerator expands upon the initial Devices Climate Tech Accelerator launched in 2025, which evaluated 28 companies across two cohorts. Under the expanded global framework, selected innovators present technical integration proposals directly to senior Amazon leadership for commercial licensing, supply agreements, technology co-development, or potential investment opportunities. Amazon confirmed it does not take equity stakes as a prerequisite for program participation.

The accelerator is structured around three core technology categories aligned with Amazon’s target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 under The Climate Pledge:

  • Low-carbon materials and manufacturing: Sourcing lower-carbon alternatives for plastics, polymers, and textiles, alongside technologies that reduce the embedded carbon footprint of semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), batteries, displays, and packaging.
  • Energy efficiency: Integrating advanced power and thermal management systems to lower operational emissions across hardware systems and data centre infrastructure.
  • Circularity and component recovery: Advancing processes for the recovery, reuse, and recycling of critical components and materials across cloud hardware and consumer electronics.

Maiken Moeller-Hansen, Director of Energy & Sustainability for Amazon Devices & Services, stated that the traditional pipeline for moving deep tech innovations from laboratory testing to enterprise-scale deployment remains too slow.

Moeller-Hansen added that the program provides a streamlined framework for founders to shape integration proposals around manufacturing readiness and product roadmaps, presenting them directly to decision-makers capable of approving enterprise adoption.
