Carbon Direct rebrands as Relae to reflect broader climate advisory scope

Climate advisory firm Carbon Direct has announced its rebranding as Relae, consolidating its services across clean energy, carbon markets, natural capital, and corporate decarbonisation strategy under a single identity.

The name change marks an evolution for the company, which was established in 2020. Whilst the original Carbon Direct brand became widely associated with carbon dioxide removal (CDR), company leadership noted that the name captured only a single aspect of its broader technical and advisory practice. The new moniker, Relae, is intended to reflect the firm’s expanded focus across energy systems and climate policy.

Jonathan Goldberg, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Relae, stated that climate and commercial decisions are increasingly intersecting across energy procurement, environmental markets, and decarbonisation strategies. He highlighted that the rebrand better showcases the organisation’s full advisory capabilities as corporate requirements evolve.

In recent years, the firm has expanded its technical domain to cover environmental attribute certificates (EACs), superpollutants, clean power procurement, low-carbon fuels, and natural capital. The company emphasised that its core objective—delivering science-backed climate action—remains unchanged, with growing power demand serving as a key mechanism for scaling decarbonisation efforts.

To date, the firm has advised over 150 corporate and institutional clients across 17 sectors and six continents, including technology hyperscalers, airlines, financial institutions, manufacturers, and governments. The team has evaluated over half of all high-quality tonnes contracted through announced global CDR offtake agreements and conducted more than 900 project diligence reviews spanning 63 countries.
