Direct air capture specialist Climeworks Solutions has announced an expanded portfolio service designed to help commercial organisations procure carbon removals aligned with specific global regulatory and compliance frameworks.
As carbon removal policies evolve globally, enterprises face increasing complexity regarding which credit structures meet regional regulatory criteria. To address this gap, Climeworks Solutions has added dedicated compliance expertise, framework-specific sourcing capabilities, and continuous policy tracking to its core commercial offering.
The expansion arrives as global regulatory bodies formalise carbon removal integration. Recent policy developments include the European Commission’s proposal to create an integration pathway for permanent carbon removals into the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), ongoing operational implementation of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) CORSIA scheme, and increased activity around Article 6.2 bilateral mechanisms under the Paris Agreement.
Under the expanded service, Climeworks Solutions will collaborate with clients to structure bespoke carbon removal portfolios using dedicated market research, due diligence, and policy analysis.
Adrian Siegrist, Chief Commercial Officer at Climeworks, highlighted the growing corporate demand for regulatory alignment in carbon procurement.
“Organizations are increasingly asking us how to navigate a rapidly evolving policy landscape and which carbon removals fit specific compliance requirements,” Siegrist stated. “This offering builds on our existing portfolio expertise by combining carbon removal sourcing with policy and market knowledge, helping customers procure high-quality carbon removals aligned with relevant frameworks and requirements.”
Drawing on seventeen years of operational development alongside standard-setting bodies and policy creators, the enterprise is initially targeting three primary regulatory structures where compliance demand is rising.
The first focus area involves ICAO CORSIA Removals, structured specifically for airline operators requiring compliant credits for international aviation obligations.
The second encompasses Article 6.2 ITMO Removals, enabling access to carbon credits transferred under bilateral state agreements to support entities needing internationally transferred mitigation outcomes.
The third framework focuses on EU CRCF Carbon Removals, offering assets certified under the European Union’s Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming Certification Framework. This mechanism forms the proposed benchmark for eventual integration into the EU ETS.
Climeworks Solutions plans to extend its compliance-tailored portfolio coverage to additional international jurisdictions as regulatory frameworks mature globally.
