CSRWorks launches Certified GHG Verification Practitioner Course

CSRWorks International, a Singapore-based sustainability services firm, has launched a new Certified GHG Verification Practitioner Course to help professionals develop practical capability in verifying organisational greenhouse gas inventories.

The 16-hour programme is designed for GHG and sustainability professionals, assurance and verification practitioners, internal auditors, risk and compliance professionals, and consultants who already have a working knowledge of corporate GHG accounting and want to strengthen their verification skills.

The course follows the lifecycle of a GHG verification engagement, covering engagement acceptance and planning, materiality and risk assessment, evidence gathering and sampling, testing of GHG data, evaluation of findings and misstatements, and formulation of the verification conclusion.

ISO 14064-3 provides the primary verification framework, with the programme also addressing its relationship with organisational GHG accounting requirements and relevant assurance frameworks, including ISSA 5000 and AA1000AS v3.

“Reliable GHG information depends on much more than getting the calculations right,” said Rajesh Chhabara, Managing Director of CSRWorks International. “Verifiers and internal auditors need to understand where material misstatements could arise, determine whether the evidence is sufficient, exercise professional judgement and reach conclusions that can withstand scrutiny.”

The programme places a strong emphasis on applied learning through practical exercises and realistic verification scenarios. Participants will develop skills in reviewing organisational boundaries, Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, selected Scope 3 categories, emission factors, estimates and uncertainty, data and controls, findings and corrections, documentation and verification statements.

Participants who meet the attendance requirements and successfully complete the practical and scenario-based assessments will be awarded the CSRWorks Certified GHG Verification Practitioner Certificate.

The course is intended for professionals involved in preparing, reviewing or independently evaluating GHG information. Participants are expected to have completed the CSRWorks Certified GHG Professional Training Course or possess equivalent knowledge and experience in organisational GHG accounting.

In addition to scheduled public courses, the programme is available as in-house training for company teams, including sustainability, GHG accounting, internal audit, risk, compliance and assurance functions.

CSRWorks International has provided sustainability advisory, assurance and professional training services internationally since 2005. The company is an AA1000 Licensed Assurance Provider and Licensed Training Partner, a GRI Certified Training Partner, and an IFRS-approved training partner for sustainability and integrated reporting programmes.
