BNP Paribas unveils global sustainability strategy 2026–2030

BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM), Europe’s third-largest asset manager with more than €1.7 trillion in assets under management, has published its Global Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030.

The roadmap outlines BNPP AM’s strategic priorities to manage systemic economic risks, identify emerging market opportunities, and enhance long-term portfolio resilience across listed and alternative asset classes.

The 2026–2030 framework addresses structural market pressures, including environmental change, demographic shifts, technological innovation, and geopolitical fragmentation, while strengthening investor engagement with corporate issuers and international regulators.

Key priorities across the six-pillar strategic roadmap include:

  • Forward-looking research: Aligning thematic research on nature, just transition, and climate risk frameworks with client requirements, alongside finalizing an evolved net-zero approach ahead of updated Net Zero Asset Managers (NZAM) targets at the end of 2026.
  • Customised client solutions: Assisting institutional clients with regulatory transitions, including SFDR 2.0 implementation, while leveraging Europe’s largest alternatives platform and natural capital capabilities across sustainable forestry, biodiversity, and carbon markets.
  • ESG integration & technology: Rollout of updated proprietary ESG and Net Zero analytical methodologies in early 2027, incorporating artificial intelligence and quantitative risk dashboards into core investment processes.
  • Stewardship & exclusions: Deepening coordination between stewardship and portfolio management teams to lead active engagement initiatives on systemic risks, including sustainable AI governance, hazardous chemicals, and climate adaptation, supported by clear exclusion policies.
  • Operational accountability: Embedding sustainability into internal corporate culture through entity- and fund-level reporting transparency, net-zero operational roadmaps, and scaled employee education and volunteering programs.

Jane Ambachtsheer, Chief Sustainability Officer at BNPP AM, stated that sustainability remains an essential component of the group’s overarching investment philosophy, helping investment teams evaluate unpriced risks and capture long-term commercial opportunities.

Ambachtsheer added that the strategy focuses on matching institutional ambition with operational execution across global markets to support long-term value creation for clients.
