Harbinger secures $300m order for 2,000 electric trucks from FedEx

Electric vehicle manufacturer Harbinger has secured a binding order exceeding $300 million from logistics provider FedEx for 2,000 all-electric medium-duty commercial trucks.

The deal marks one of the largest binding procurement orders for electric medium or heavy-duty trucks in the commercial fleet sector. Deliveries are scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with the vehicles deployed across FedEx pickup and delivery operations in the United States and Canada.

The transaction expands upon a previous trial deployment within the FedEx network and follows FedEx’s participation as co-lead investor in Harbinger’s $160 million Series C equity funding round. The new electric trucks will serve as direct one-for-one replacements for conventional diesel vehicles across Class 5 and Class 6 operations.

Commercial operational highlights include:

  • Financial projections: Harbinger estimates that each electric truck reduces annual fuel expenses by approximately $20,000 compared to diesel equivalents, projecting up to $40 million in combined annual fuel savings across the 2,000-vehicle fleet.
  • Environmental impact: Over an engineered 20-year vehicle service lifecycle, the fleet replacement is projected to abate more than 1.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, based on US Department of Energy operational benchmarks.
  • Vehicle architecture: The custom-built chassis incorporates a 42-foot turning diameter, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and updated suspension systems tailored for urban delivery routes.

John Harris, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Harbinger, stated that scaling commercial fleet electrification requires proving both operational performance and long-term economic viability.

Paul Melander, Senior Vice President of Safety and Transportation at FedEx, alongside Vinay D’Souza, Senior Vice President of Global Assets and Infrastructure, noted that expanding the Harbinger deployment lowers operating and fuel expenses while advancing the company’s long-term fleet modernization targets.

Harbinger plans to complete production and delivery of all 2,000 units within an 18-month manufacturing window, with Canadian dealership network Kaizen Automotive Group managing regional distribution across Canada.
