Clean technology company Voya Energy has unveiled an energy generation system that pairs proprietary aluminium-based metal fuel with an electrochemical generator, alongside securing $35 million in Series A funding to accelerate commercial deployment.
The system converts low-grade scrap aluminium directly into electricity through a low-temperature electrochemical reaction, generating power without combustion or direct atmospheric emissions. Designed for data centres, industrial facilities, and grid-constrained energy users, Voya’s industrial unit is projected to deliver up to two megawatts of power from a standard 20-foot shipping container. At commercial scale, the footprint is expected to yield approximately 100 megawatts of capacity and 10 gigawatt-hours of stored energy per acre.
The Series A financing round was led by Energy Impact Partners (EIP), with participation from John Doerr, Mantis VC, StepStone, Founders Fund, Overmatch, and Seven Stars. Capital raised will support ongoing research and development, initial pilot site deployments in 2027, and broader manufacturing expansion planned for 2028.

Voya confirmed it has established trial partnerships with nearly a dozen organisations across the data centre, utility, transportation, and industrial sectors to prepare for initial demonstration projects.
