Hitachi and Bloom Energy partner to deliver fuel cell power solutions for data centres

Hitachi has entered into a strategic collaboration with Bloom Energy Corporation to deliver fuel cell-based power solutions for on-site electricity generation, focusing on data centres and industrial customers.

Under the agreement, Hitachi will handle overall planning, design, development, and operational support by leveraging its experience in energy and industrial systems integration. Bloom Energy will supply its fuel cell technology alongside technical support. Hitachi will also integrate its proprietary Operational Technology (OT) to connect the power systems directly with customers’ existing infrastructure.

The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of clean, resilient, and continuously operating power generation in response to rising electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence applications and industrial expansion. The collaboration expands Hitachi’s energy solutions portfolio across its global customer base while providing scalable alternatives to traditional grid connections.

Prior to the announcement, Hitachi completed a pilot project at its Omika Works facility in Ibaraki Prefecture, successfully integrating Bloom Energy’s fuel cells with Hitachi’s control systems. The trial confirmed the operational efficiency of the fuel cells and demonstrated remote power output adjustment and monitoring capabilities required for multi-unit commercial deployments.
