thyssenkrupp Chief Executive Officer Miguel López has been appointed President of trade association Hydrogen Europe, serving a term that runs until June 2029.
López succeeds Sebastian Boden of Air Liquide in the position. The leadership transition comes as the European hydrogen sector shifts focus from policy formulation to industrial implementation, with an emphasis on securing long-term investment, scaling domestic equipment manufacturing, expanding transport infrastructure, and stimulating demand across energy-intensive heavy industries.
Welcoming the appointment, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogen Europe, stated: “Our newly elected President López brings with him extensive experience, strategic vision, and a strong commitment to promoting the European hydrogen economy. Europe has everything it needs to lead the global hydrogen economy: world-class technology, industrial expertise, and ambitious climate targets. Our challenge now is execution. We must turn policies into projects, projects into investments, and investments into a competitive European market.”
