Ingka Group, the primary global retailer for IKEA, has appointed Erika Intiso as its new Chief Sustainability Officer, effective 15 November 2026.
Intiso succeeds Karen Pflug, who has served in the role since 2021. Pflug will remain with the organization through the end of the year to support a structured leadership transition.
Bringing extensive experience across retail, commercial strategy, and business transformation within the IKEA value chain, Intiso most recently served as Country Retail Manager for IKEA across the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia, overseeing the sustainability agenda across all three national markets.
In her new role, Intiso will lead Ingka Group’s global sustainability strategy, reporting directly to Ulrika Biesèrt, Group People, Sustainability and Communication Manager.
Key organisational milestones and transition highlights include:
- Executive oversight: Leading the integration of circularity and decarbonisation strategies into core commercial operations and corporate decision-making.
- Operational track record: Under outgoing CSO Karen Pflug, Ingka Group reduced absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions by 70.6 per cent compared to a FY16 baseline.
- Renewable energy integration: Matched 94.8 per cent of global electricity consumption with renewable power procurement in FY25.
- Circular & social initiatives: Expanded retail circular models, including the Buyback & Resell service, expanded zero-tailpipe-emission home delivery fleets, and supported more than 4,300 refugees via the Skills for Employment scheme since 2019.
Ulrika Biesèrt stated that Intiso’s proven track record of driving sustainable performance alongside commercial growth will be instrumental as the retailer accelerates its operational transition.
Erika Intiso added that translating high-level environmental targets into tangible daily practices across the value chain remains essential to driving long-term business growth and delivering positive community impact.
