Siemens Energy has been selected by Dutch floating platform specialist SBM Offshore to supply power generation and gas compression systems for two Petrobras floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels destined for offshore Brazil.
The equipment will be installed on the P-81 and P-87 platforms operating in the Sergipe-Alagoas deepwater basin (SEAP I and SEAP II), a major offshore frontier for Brazilian oil and gas development.
Designed to meet compact footprint and high-reliability specifications, Siemens Energy will supply 16 main modular skid systems—eight per vessel. Each package includes four gas turbine generators, three gas turbine-driven compressor trains for processing and export, and one electric motor-driven compressor for reservoir gas injection.
A major portion of the assembly will take place at Siemens Energy’s industrial complex in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, in southeastern Brazil, satisfying local content requirements. The project is projected to generate approximately 400 direct and 500 indirect jobs. Deliveries to SBM Offshore are scheduled to begin by the end of 2027 and run through 2028.
Marcela Souza, Senior Vice President of Siemens Energy for Latin America, noted that the contract reflects a coordinated integration of engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management, and local services to meet complex offshore operational conditions.
Together, the P-81 and P-87 FPSOs will feature a combined production capacity of up to 240,000 barrels of oil per day and the ability to process 22 million cubic metres of natural gas daily. Both units will connect to a dedicated export pipeline delivering gas directly to onshore facilities, boosting domestic energy supplies while curbing offshore gas flaring and reinjection. Initial production is slated for 2030, with natural gas exports targeted to commence in 2031.
