Renewable energy generator RWE has confirmed the completion of construction at its Enoch Hill onshore wind farm, situated near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
Turbine commissioning was finalized in May, making Enoch Hill the second onshore wind project completed by RWE in Scotland in 2026, following the completion of the Camster II site in Caithness in April. Together, the two developments contribute 106 megawatts (MW) of clean generation capacity, bringing RWE’s total operational onshore wind footprint in Scotland to 229MW across nine generating sites.
The 70MW Enoch Hill facility was originally consented in September 2019, with civil construction commencing in June 2023 and first power generation achieved in April 2026. The installation comprises a combination of Nordex N133/4.8 and N117/3600 Delta4000 wind turbines. At full operational output, the site is expected to generate sufficient electricity to supply approximately 68,000 average UK homes.
Nadine Janecke, Chief Development Director for Renewables Europe & Australia at RWE, noted that the project represents another milestone in delivering secure domestic power while supporting local employment, supply chains, and economic development.
Principal contractors Farrans and Nordex prioritized regional supply chains throughout civil works and equipment installation. Over 38% of Farrans’ total construction expenditure was directed to suppliers operating within 20 miles of the site, with 68% of all subcontracts awarded to local firms. Nordex similarly engaged regional businesses, including MW Hire, The Bacas, and Maneight Farm, for key technical operations.
Patrick Murray, Regional Director for Farrans, and Mike Short, Director of Project Management at Nordex UK & Ireland, both highlighted that the collaborative execution ensured high standards of safety and local economic integration throughout site delivery.
Beyond ongoing business rate contributions and operational maintenance employment, the wind farm has established a £10.5 million community benefit fund. Managed by Foundation Scotland during its initial phase following public consultation, the fund will focus exclusively on supporting community initiatives across New Cumnock over its first five years.
