bp divests minority stakes in over 10 venture companies to Verdane

Energy giant bp has reached an agreement with private equity firm Verdane to divest bp Ventures’ minority interests in more than ten companies within its current portfolio. The completion of the transaction remains subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory and contractual approvals.

The deal encompasses the majority of bp Ventures’ minority shareholdings across a diverse range of energy-related technology firms. The move aligns with bp’s ongoing corporate strategy to simplify its global portfolio and maintain disciplined capital allocation across its operations. Concurrently, the transition provides the affected portfolio companies with a new backing investor dedicated to supporting their next stage of corporate development.

Despite the broad scale of the divestment, bp will maintain its financial and strategic interests in a select number of investments where the proprietary technology holds direct potential to create operational value for its core business units.

The transaction is currently projected to achieve full financial and legal completion by the second quarter of 2027.
