GRI relaunches corporate membership programme into two specialised global networks

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has revamped its flagship membership ecosystem, replacing the former GRI Community with GRI Networks—two distinct membership tracks designed to provide specialized technical guidance and peer-to-peer engagement.

The structural redesign reorganises a global network of over 250 organisations into two targeted programs tailored to distinct market segments:

  • GRI Business Network: Tailored for corporate reporting entities and in-house ESG teams. Focuses on peer learning, practical implementation strategies, technical discussions, and collaborative focus groups addressing shared disclosure hurdles.
  • GRI Expert Network: Designed for sustainability consultants, advisory firms, and assurance practitioners. Emphasises professional development, technical visibility within the GRI ecosystem, and business development support.

The updated framework incorporates dedicated “Communities of Practice”—expanding on initial pilot programs focused on Biodiversity and Climate & Energy—to assist companies with applying newly updated GRI Standards. Members will also gain access to a centralised digital collaboration portal, monthly technical office hours, “AskGRI” interactive sessions, and structured discounts for the GRI Academy and Report Services.

John Knights, Director of Services at GRI, stated that the restructured format provides a more targeted framework for peer exchange, enabling organisations to navigate evolving global transparency requirements and complex reporting frameworks.
