Sustainable infrastructure investor Actis has agreed to acquire Klara Renewables, a 171MW operational onshore wind portfolio in Poland, from CVC DIF.
The transaction marks Actis’ first entry into the Polish energy market and serves as the foundation for its second renewable energy platform in Central and Eastern Europe. The new platform targets a total capacity of up to 1.5GW, which will combine onshore wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Klara Renewables comprises six operational wind farms located across the Polish regions of Wielkopolska, Kujawy-Pomorze, and Podlasie. The assets operate via Vestas turbine technology and are supported by government Contracts for Difference that extend to 2038–39, securing long-term revenue visibility. Actis plans to expand the platform by acquiring further late-stage development assets and utilizing the existing grid connections to add co-located solar and battery storage, which has an estimated hybridization potential of 275MW.
The acquisition comes during an ongoing shift in Poland’s domestic generation mix. While coal still accounts for 56% of domestic electricity production, wind and solar generation have grown to comprise 15% and 9% respectively. According to International Energy Agency data, Poland represents one of the fastest-growing solar PV markets within the European Union. The Polish government is targeting more than 50% renewable electricity generation by 2030 and intends to phase out coal capacity by 2040, a transition requiring at least 84GW of total renewable capacity to meet rising industrial and digital power demands.
Jaroslava Korpanec, Head of Central & Eastern Europe at Actis, noted that Poland operates an open, regulated electricity market backed by established regulatory frameworks. She stated that the platform intends to build and manage generation assets to assist the country with its energy transition and support long-term grid resilience.
The launch expands Actis’ existing footprint in the region, building on its Rezolv Energy platform in Romania and Bulgaria, which has grown to 2.3GW since its inception in July 2022.
