Cathay and Singapore Airlines sign MoU to boost SAF use

Sustainable aviation fuel concept. Net zero emissions flight. Sustainability transportation. Eco-friendly aviation fuel. Air travel. Future of flight with green innovation. Airplane use biofuel energy

Cathay and Singapore Airlines (SIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on promoting the use and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) within the Asia-Pacific region, recognising it as a pivotal step towards decarbonising the aviation industry.

This agreement emphasises both airlines’ dedication to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and their commitment to driving sustainable changes within the industry.

The collaboration will primarily focus on advocating for increased utilisation of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region. This will be done by increasing public awareness of SAF’s essential role in reducing aviation’s carbon footprint, pushing for favourable policies, and establishing a unified global framework for accurate emissions reporting and verification.

The airlines will also consider joint SAF procurement strategies at specific locations to enhance production and facilitate its broader adoption across the industry.

The two companies will also share best practices for reducing the use of single-use plastics, minimising waste, and boosting energy efficiency in both ground and cargo operations.
