EcoVadis unveils carbon data network to enhance Scope 3 emissions tracking

EcoVadis has introduced the Carbon Data Network (CDN) at the Sustain 2025 conference, aiming to improve transparency and accuracy in Scope 3 emissions reporting. The platform provides businesses with greater access to primary carbon data from suppliers, addressing longstanding challenges in emissions tracking and decarbonisation efforts.

With more than 150,000 organisations forming the network, the initiative seeks to streamline data collection and enhance the reliability of emissions reporting. This comes amid increasing regulatory pressures, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which requires companies to provide accurate carbon data across supply chains. Currently, only 16% of the world’s largest companies are on track to meet their 2050 Net Zero targets, highlighting the urgency of improved greenhouse gas reduction strategies.

The Carbon Data Network is powered by the EcoVadis Carbon Action Manager (CAM), which supports companies in engaging suppliers based on their level of decarbonisation maturity. The platform offers tools such as Corrective Action Plans, a Carbon Estimator, and educational resources to help businesses build carbon management capabilities.

To enhance data interoperability, EcoVadis has partnered with carbon accounting providers Sweep and Normative. These collaborations aim to improve data-sharing efficiency and reduce the reporting burden by integrating supplier emissions data directly into Scope 3 calculations. A pilot project with Sweep enabled SNCF to securely access carbon data from multiple suppliers, while a similar initiative is underway with Normative.

“The transition to Net Zero requires collaboration and trust in data. Increasing data availability and reliability through automation and AI is key to generating precise carbon insights,” said Pierre-François Thaler, co-founder and co-CEO of EcoVadis.

Julia Salant, general manager of carbon solutions at EcoVadis, added: “By integrating primary supplier data directly into Scope 3 calculations and expanding partnerships, businesses can move away from industry averages and rely on more accurate emissions data to inform their decarbonisation strategies.”
