ACCIONA Energía inks 800GWh renewable deals to support Italian industry

ACCIONA Energía has signed bilateral agreements totalling 800GWh of renewable energy to assist the decarbonisation of several energy-intensive industrial clients in Italy, including the prominent steel producer Acciaierie Venete.

The contracts were facilitated under Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism. Managed by the public entity Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), this framework is designed to accelerate the rollout of renewable capacity by directly linking industrial electricity demand with the construction of new generation assets.

Through this mechanism, industrial players will secure renewable power for a three-year term at a fixed price of €65/MWh. In exchange, ACCIONA Energía has committed to developing new renewable projects across Italy. These assets will benefit from a fixed tariff over a 20-year period, providing long-term revenue visibility for the developer while offering industries stable, competitive energy prices.

ACCIONA Energía currently operates 156MW of wind capacity across four farms in the Abruzzo, Calabria, and Sicily regions. The company is poised to further expand its portfolio with the construction of two new photovoltaic plants in Sicily—Panbianco (100.8MWp) and Benante (50.2MWp)—following its successful bid for 151MW of solar capacity in the latest FERX public renewable energy auction.

ACCIONA has operated in Italy for more than 25 years, primarily through its water and construction divisions. Its portfolio includes major infrastructure projects such as the Port of Ravenna breakwater and the Fuente Presidiana drinking water treatment plant.
