Gold Standard issues first CCP-eligible credits for clean cooking projects

Gold Standard has issued its first carbon credits deemed eligible under the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market’s (ICVCM) Core Carbon Principles, marking the first time clean-cooking projects have received the CCP label.

The credits come from projects certified under Gold Standard for the Global Goals and include initiatives across Kenya, Togo, Nigeria and Mongolia that distribute improved cookstoves or cleaner heating technologies. These interventions aim to reduce fuel use, cut greenhouse-gas emissions and improve indoor air quality, with verified social and health co-benefits.

The newly labelled projects include Global Cookstoves’ deployment of improved stoves in Kenya; Africa 4 Climate’s Arborify Cookstoves project in Togo; Agasco’s improved cookstoves programme in Nigeria; and a Mongolian clean-energy microfinance scheme developed by MicroEnergy Credits and XacBank.

Gold Standard said the CCP recognition reflects the strength of its existing methodologies, which were accepted by the ICVCM without requiring updates. The organisation has also recently been approved to supply credits for CORSIA Phase 2.
