New Forests launches global natural capital investment strategy

Nature-based real asset manager New Forests has announced the launch of its Global Landscape Opportunities (GLO) strategy. The vehicle marks the firm’s first globally integrated natural capital offering, pooling investments across forestry, agriculture, carbon, and biodiversity markets into a single portfolio.

The strategy will be established in Luxembourg and restricted exclusively to institutional investors, including pension funds, insurance companies, family offices, endowments, and foundations.

The strategy transitions the firm away from strictly regional funds, consolidating its investment pipeline into a single global deployment structure. Capital will be actively allocated across varied geographies, sectors, and ecosystem markets to manage risk and optimise portfolio duration.

The fund’s structural asset allocation framework has been defined across three primary geographic tiers:

  • Core Developed Markets (60 per cent to 80 per cent): Primary allocations will be directed towards sustainable forestry and agricultural assets across the United States, Canada, Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Developed Latin America (Up to 30 per cent): Targeted investment exposure within Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile.
  • Emerging Regions (Up to 20 per cent): Optional allocations across Southeast Asia, secondary Latin American markets, and Africa.

The deployment framework is designed to capitalise on institutional demand for land-based assets, which are increasingly utilised by capital markets as portfolio diversification tools, inflation hedges, and mechanisms to secure exposure to global food, fibre, and renewable energy supply chains.

Mark Rogers, Chief Executive Officer of New Forests, commented, “The launch of our Global Landscape Opportunities strategy marks a significant step in the evolution of New Forests as a global natural capital investment manager. We are seeing strong investor demand for scalable, institutional strategies that provide diversified exposure to natural capital. This strategy responds directly to that need – bringing together our global platform, investment expertise, and track record into a single offering.”

David Shelton, Global Head of Investments at New Forests, added, “Historically, many investors have accessed natural capital through regional allocations, but not all institutions have the scale, resources or expertise to build and manage global portfolios themselves. Building on New Forests’ regional return performance, this strategy allows investors to access a diversified global portfolio where we actively allocate capital across regions, sectors and markets to optimise outcomes.”
