Novisto launches integrated platform to digitise corporate double materiality assessments

Enterprise sustainability management platform Novisto has announced the launch of Novisto Materiality, a digitised solution designed to assist sustainability teams in identifying, documenting, and managing material risks and opportunities.

The platform targets businesses subject to the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which mandates double materiality assessments under European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The double materiality approach evaluates both the financial impacts of sustainability issues on a company and the organisation’s broader effects on society and the environment. The process is also increasingly relevant under global reporting frameworks such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Traditionally, corporate materiality assessments depended on qualitative surveys that lacked standardised benchmarking, making it difficult to objectively compare distinct impacts like carbon emissions against land usage. These exercises often resulted in static, point-in-time reports that proved difficult to integrate into continuous corporate risk management and operational decision-making.

Novisto’s new capability embeds an on-demand, digital framework directly into its core platform. Powered by GIST Impact’s quantitative methodology, the system replaces subjective survey inputs with standardised scoring logic backed by empirical evidence. The integrated setup allows companies to run assessments as operational needs arise, maintaining data lineage and an audit-ready paper trail for external assurance.

Katherine Bruce, ESG Reporting Lead at Emirates Group, noted that embedding materiality within the core platform helps maintain a direct link between analytical decisions and final disclosures, enhancing reporting transparency and traceability.

The system manages the entire assessment workflow, including primary data collection, AI-powered impact and financial scoring, stakeholder engagement surveys, decision documentation, and audit trail generation.

Charles Assaf, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Novisto, stated that materiality should function as a continuous discipline rather than a biennial compliance exercise, emphasising that the tool aims to bring financial-grade rigor to sustainability data management.
