Osborne Clarke appoints Conrad Purcell to boost energy transition project finance practice

International law firm Osborne Clarke has appointed Conrad Purcell as a partner in its Projects, Real Estate, and Finance team to strengthen its project finance capabilities and accelerate the growth of its energy transition and infrastructure practice across the UK and international markets.

An experienced project finance specialist, Conrad brings extensive expertise in financing energy and infrastructure assets throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Over his career, he has built a strong network of sponsors, lenders, and developers across the energy transition, battery storage, and data centre sectors, specialising in structuring bankable projects and negotiating complex cross-border finance documentation.

His recent high-profile mandates include advising borrower groups on a $1.35bn cross-border revolving credit facility and acting on the award-winning project financing of Raxio’s pan-African data centre platform. He also advised KX Power on a £200m battery storage joint venture with BlackRock to develop UK energy storage assets, alongside advising investors on funding concentrated solar power projects with thermal energy storage for sustainable aviation fuel production. Conrad joins the firm from Haynes and Boone LLP, having previously practised at Bird & Bird.

Welcoming the appointment, Michelle McGurl, Partner and Practice Group Head for Projects, Finance, and Real Estate at Osborne Clarke, emphasised that energy transition was a central growth area for the firm, noting that project finance was critical to delivering the next generation of infrastructure projects. She added that Conrad’s international experience, particularly in battery storage and data centres, provided real depth to the team and strengthened support for ambitious cross-border investments.

Commenting on his new role, Conrad Purcell stated that Osborne Clarke possessed a strong reputation in energy transition and data centres alongside a clear strategic focus on project finance. He explained that joining the firm offered an excellent platform to support clients on sophisticated cross-border financings alongside colleagues across real estate, construction, and planning, adding that he looked forward to expanding the firm’s project finance expertise and contributing to complex energy transactions.
