Rabobank appoints Dries Lagerberg as Chief Sustainability Officer

Dutch cooperative lender Rabobank has announced the appointment of Dries Lagerberg as its new Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), effective 1 June 2026. In this executive capacity, Lagerberg will oversee the bank’s Group Sustainability Department and report directly to Chief Executive Officer Stefaan Decraene.

Lagerberg succeeds Aafke Keizer, who had managed the sustainability division since 2022 before transitioning to an alternative internal position within the bank. Lagerberg, who had been operating as interim CSO over recent months, possesses formal experience in corporate sustainability strategy and operational deployment.

For the past three years, Lagerberg served as a member of Rabobank’s Group Sustainability Management Team, contributing to the formulation and execution of the institution’s environmental objectives.

Commenting on the appointment, Lagerberg stated: “Sustainability is at the heart of Rabobank’s cooperative identity. I look forward to continuing to work with colleagues and partners to accelerate our impact for members, clients, society, and future generations.”

Corporate leadership indicated that the promotion provides structural continuity for Rabobank’s ongoing sustainability roadmap, which focuses on integrating climate risk, biodiversity protection, and social governance across its commercial banking activities.
