Responsible Health Initiative and Schneider Electric partner to decarbonise pharmaceutical supply chains

The Responsible Health Initiative (RHI), an industry alliance powered by sustainability rating platform EcoVadis, has announced a new collaboration with the Energize program. The initiative, designed and delivered by SE Advisory Services—the global consulting practice of Schneider Electric—aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of global pharmaceutical supply chains.

Research conducted by EcoVadis indicates that indirect supply chain emissions, known as Scope 3, are on average 21 times larger than a company’s operational Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions combined. The study warns that ignoring these value-chain emissions could expose global corporations to over $500 billion in annual liabilities by 2030. Within the healthcare sector specifically, data reveals that only 6 per cent of companies currently maintain a formal plan to transition to a low-carbon business model, making healthcare one of the slowest sectors to engage in climate transition planning.

The new partnership is positioned as a concerted industry effort to transition suppliers toward renewable energy and drive carbon reductions across the pharmaceutical sector.

The Energize program itself operates as a coalition of 27 global pharmaceutical companies working to engage hundreds of suppliers in value-chain decarbonisation. Through the new link with the RHI, eligible suppliers within the initiative can now join the program to access education, digital monitoring tools, and global expert advisory services provided by the Schneider Electric team.

The collaboration focuses on simplifying the decarbonisation process by giving suppliers structured plans to transition to renewable energy sources with direct corporate support. It also offers dedicated training and personalised guidance intended to improve the carbon maturity and reporting capabilities of participating vendors.

RHI suppliers are now being invited to register for the Energize program. Registration allows Schneider Electric to track and share sustainability progress directly with EcoVadis, rendering supplier decarbonisation efforts visible to the wider RHI membership network.
