Sustainability consultancy BuildGreen and pan-European logistics real estate developer VGP have obtained the BREEAM v6 Outstanding rating for VGP Park Split – Building A. Marking the highest attainable level under BREEAM certification, the achievement applies to the 31,984-square-metre facility situated within VGP’s logistics park in Dugopolje, near Split.
The milestone represents the first Croatian project certified by BuildGreen. Răzvan Nica, CEO and founder of BuildGreen, noted that the methodology and expertise established in Romania translate seamlessly across international markets. He praised VGP’s corporate requirement for minimum certification standards across its portfolio, highlighting that exceeding these targets demonstrates the strength of VGP’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments ahead of evolving European Union regulations.
In alignment with VGP’s standard for new developments, Building A is designed to meet EU Taxonomy criteria. The infrastructure is pre-equipped for photovoltaic installations, electric vehicle charging points, and advanced water treatment systems, all of which can be activated according to tenant specifications.
During the assessment, Building A achieved maximum marks in energy efficiency and waste management, whilst recording near-maximum scores in project management and pollution control. Additional categories evaluated included water stewardship, material selection, occupant health and wellbeing, transport links, land use, ecology, and innovation.
These high scores carry particular significance following the entry into force of the revised European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) on 27 May 2026. The directive mandates the calculation of embodied carbon—encompassing construction materials, transport, and building processes—alongside standard energy performance certificates for all new developments. Securing the top rating ahead of these mandatory rules positions VGP Park Split comfortably ahead of the regulatory curve.
Upon full completion, VGP Park Split will offer 74,000 square metres of industrial and logistics space across two buildings. Positioned 15 kilometres from the Port of Split and 30 kilometres from Split St Jerome International Airport, at the junction of the E-65 and D1 motorways, the site provides direct access to key Adriatic and South-East European trade corridors.
VGP operates, manages, and develops logistics assets across 16 countries, spanning Western, Central, and South-Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, this accomplishment adds to BuildGreen’s portfolio of more than 500 green certifications achieved over 15 years, reinforcing the firm’s expanding footprint across the broader European region.
