Nature-based carbon removal developer Chestnut Carbon has delivered a second annual tranche of Improved Forest Management (IFM) carbon credits to clean energy developer Sol Systems, strengthening a regional partnership focused on ecosystem stewardship and community investment.
Building on their initial 2025 agreement, which offset emissions from the construction of Sol Systems’ Prairie Creek solar facility in Illinois, the 2026 credits will compensate for Sol Systems’ corporate operational footprint alongside construction emissions from its Tilden and Eldorado I and II solar projects in Illinois.
Chestnut’s IFM framework allows private forest owners across the United States to generate revenue through carbon markets, providing capital for land management costs and long-term conservation without relying solely on timber harvesting. By sourcing credits from Chestnut’s Midwestern projects, Sol Systems aligns its carbon offsetting directly with the geographical regions hosting its solar infrastructure.
Highlighting the shared focus on localised impact, Brian DiMarino, Chief Operating & Commercial Officer at Chestnut Carbon, stated, “It’s an honor to continue supporting Sol Systems as they develop U.S.-based clean energy projects in a thoughtful, community-centered way. We share a belief that sustainable infrastructure should deliver meaningful local benefits, and we’re excited to keep advancing the vision.”
Emphasising the broader environmental rationale, Juliana Isaac, Director of Sustainability and Ecosystem Impact at Sol Systems, noted, “At Sol Systems, our work is rooted in the belief that clean energy should strengthen both communities and the ecosystems that support them. Sourcing high-quality, local IFM credits from Chestnut allows us to extend the impact of our work beyond clean energy generation – supporting responsible land stewardship, local economic resilience, and measurable environmental benefits in the regions where we operate.”
