Google, hyperscale data centre specialist AirTrunk, and renewable energy developer European Energy Australia have announced that the 25-megawatt (MW) Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales is nearing engineering completion and preparing for formal grid integration.
First announced in 2023, the utility-scale infrastructure asset is designed to inject new renewable energy capacity directly into Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM). Managed as a core component of Google’s broader Digital Future Initiative, the solar installation is engineered to match the escalating energy consumption of domestic digital infrastructure with newly generated clean power, supporting the decarbonisation of the Australian electricity grid.
The long-term off-take and development partnership aligns with Google’s global corporate mandate to operate its entire data centre and office network on 24/7 carbon-free energy.
By collaborating with local and international energy specialists, the consortium aims to demonstrate a scalable framework for responsible digital infrastructure procurement, ensuring that advanced computing systems and cloud data networks are supported by sustainable, low-carbon generation assets.
