GreenDot and osapiens launch joint compliance platform for EU packaging regulations

GreenDot and technology developer osapiens have entered into a strategic partnership to launch an artificial intelligence-powered compliance solution for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

The partnership integrates GreenDot’s regulatory expertise in European packaging licensing and producer responsibility schemes with the osapiens HUB, a cloud-based software platform designed for corporate sustainability tracking. The joint digital infrastructure aims to standardise and automate cross-border compliance reporting for international brand owners and manufacturers operating within European markets.

The introduction of the PPWR establishes stricter statutory standards for packaging design, recyclability metrics, and material tracing across the European Union. However, because individual member states maintain distinct national registration and reporting systems, multinational corporations face significant operational complexity when calculating their cross-border obligations.

The new platform connects directly with a company’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to aggregate key packaging parameters, including material composition, weight, and verified recyclability. Utilizing this central dataset, the system automatically determines the specific financial liabilities owed under individual national frameworks, helping companies identify optimal tariff structures across multiple jurisdictions.

A primary obstacle in environmental compliance is that precise technical packaging data often resides with external suppliers rather than the primary brand owner. To resolve this information gap, the platform utilizes automated, AI-assisted workflows and supplier collaboration tools to request, collect, and verify material data automatically, replacing manual compliance tracking.

Furthermore, the digital platform uses application programming interfaces (APIs) to connect directly with national registration systems and individual country-specific EPR schemes, ensuring that corporate reporting scales inline with changing regulatory updates.

Laurent Auguste, CEO of GreenDot, stated that businesses are increasingly concerned about the administrative costs and operational complexities associated with managing EPR compliance under the new PPWR framework. He noted that scaling the circular economy requires greater material transparency, but must be accompanied by efforts to optimize value chain efficiency. The collaborative system is intended to provide a unified compliance hub to reduce administrative overheads.

Stefan Wawrzinek, Co-Founder and Chairman at osapiens, added that cross-border EPR compliance represents one of the most complex regulatory challenges currently facing European producers. He emphasised that combining GreenDot’s regulatory depth with an automated software infrastructure provides companies with the necessary tools to manage data complexity confidently and at scale.
