D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) and Meta have announced the signing of 850 megawatts (MW) of new power purchase agreements (PPAs) in 2026, marking expansion of their long-standing energy infrastructure partnership.
The new agreements include 500 MW in Oklahoma, 200 MW in Texas, and 150 MW in Mississippi. These projects are designed to support Meta’s operational demands by adding new carbon-free generation to the national grid.
To date, the collaboration between the two companies has resulted in approximately 2,575 MW of contracted solar and battery storage projects spanning nine states. In addition to the 2026 signings, the portfolio includes significant capacity in Utah (300 MW), New Mexico (100 MW), and further developments in Texas.
“Our energy infrastructure partnership with Meta now spans nine states and more than two and a half gigawatts across the country,” said Hy Martin, Chief Development Officer of DESRI. He noted that the partnership is a “cornerstone” of the firm’s strategy to deliver reliable energy to support the growth of the U.S. economy.
The expansion is expected to drive substantial economic activity in predominantly rural areas. DESRI anticipates that approximately 1,110 MW of the contracted projects will move into the construction phase this year, creating hundreds of local jobs.
Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, emphasised the community-centric nature of the deal. “This expanded partnership reflects our commitment to supporting the communities where we operate,” she stated.
Beyond energy generation, the agreements include dedicated funding for educational initiatives. Several of the new PPAs will feature high school scholarship programmes aimed at students pursuing careers in clean energy and STEM fields.
The “Virginia Clean Energy Community Leaders Scholarship” was highlighted as a model for these efforts, intended to assist the next generation of energy leaders in their post-secondary education. By integrating social investment directly into its power contracts, DESRI aims to foster a sustainable talent pipeline for the domestic renewables industry.
