Climate Bonds Initiative and FinCity.Tokyo partner to strengthen sustainable finance collaboration

The Climate Bonds Initiative and the Organization of Global Financial City Tokyo (FinCity.Tokyo) have agreed to strengthen their ongoing cooperation to advance sustainable finance markets and elevate Tokyo’s position as an international financial centre.

The agreement follows a jointly hosted roundtable during London Climate Action Week on 24 June 2026, where the two organisations brought together UK and Japanese financial leaders to discuss best practices across transition finance, resilience finance, and cross-border capital deployment.

Under the expanded partnership framework, FinCity.Tokyo and the Climate Bonds Initiative will establish a continuous collaborative mechanism to connect Japanese market participants with international institutional investors and global regulatory expertise.

Key operational objectives of the partnership include:

  • International knowledge exchange: Exporting Tokyo’s sustainable finance initiatives and transition frameworks to global capital markets, while integrating overseas technical standards into the Japanese financial ecosystem.
  • Network integration: Facilitating direct engagement between Japanese issuers, financial institutions, and international asset managers through targeted global roadshows and industry forums.
  • Standardisation alignment: Leveraging the Climate Bonds Initiative’s certification standards and taxonomy expertise to support transition finance and climate-aligned bond issuances across Asian markets.

FinCity.Tokyo conducts global promotional activities to strengthen Tokyo’s position as a financial hub, focusing on showcasing green finance innovation and expanding institutional networks across major global markets.

The Climate Bonds Initiative provides technical guidance, bond certification, and policy support to governments and financial institutions internationally to scale capital allocation toward climate solutions.

Both organisations stated that expanding structured dialogue between Japanese domestic stakeholders and global investors is essential to accelerate regional decarbonisation and support credible corporate transition strategies.
