Eurazeo acquires majority stake in water efficiency leader Miya Water

Private equity firm Eurazeo, through its Eurazeo Planetary Boundaries Fund (EPBF), has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in water efficiency provider Miya Water.

Miya’s founding team and current management will retain a significant minority shareholding and continue to steer strategic operations alongside EPBF. The transaction marks the fourth investment completed by the fund within 18 months, with final closing subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Founded in 2007, Miya specialises in non-revenue water (NRW) reduction—addressing water that is lost before reaching consumers due to pipe leakage, unauthorized consumption, or metering inaccuracies. Global NRW losses are estimated at 126 billion cubic metres annually, representing a €50 billion commercial addressable market for utility efficiency services.

The company has executed more than 200 utility projects across five continents, operating across Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, South-East Asia, and the Pacific.

Key investment and operational objectives include:

  • International expansion: Scaling Miya’s performance-based contracting model into new international markets across Europe and North America.
  • Targeted acquisitions: Executing selective buy-and-build M&A strategies to consolidate a fragmented global water services sector.
  • Environmental impact metrics: Direct alignment with planetary boundary benchmarks by reducing raw freshwater abstraction, curbing organic river pollution, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions tied to water pumping and treatment energy requirements.

Erwann Le Ligné and Wilfried Piskula, Managing Partners and Co-Heads of EPBF, stated that water infrastructure efficiency represents one of the defining environmental challenges of the coming decades as ageing distribution networks face mounting climate pressures.

Noam Komy, Executive Chairman of Miya, added that partnering with Eurazeo will enable the company to expand its operational footprint through organic network expansion and disciplined corporate acquisitions.
