Lenovo has announced substantial progress against its first generation of long-term, enterprise-wide Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets. The technology firm’s FY2025‑26 ESG Report details measurable achievements across climate action, the circular economy, social impact, and corporate governance.
According to the report, the multinational technology company has successfully integrated ESG priorities across its global operations over the past five years and remains on track to meet its net-zero emissions targets by 2050, which are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. Notably, over 90% of the electricity powering Lenovo’s global operations is now sourced from renewable energy, achieved through a combination of onsite generation, power purchase agreements, and renewable energy certificates.
Dave Carroll, Lenovo’s Chief Legal and Corporate Responsibility Officer, noted that nearing the conclusion of the company’s first generation of ESG goals represents an important milestone. He emphasized that the focus is now on applying these findings to accelerate future impact, particularly as businesses navigate environmental challenges, geopolitical complexities, and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.
In terms of sustainable design and circular economy initiatives, the report highlights that all PC products now incorporate post-consumer recycled materials, excluding tablets and accessories. Since 2005, the firm has enabled the recovery of more than 363 million kilograms of end-of-life products and reused 300 million pounds of post-consumer recycled plastics. Furthermore, smartphone packaging sustainability has been enhanced, achieving a 50% reduction in single-use plastics compared to the FY2020/21 baseline.
The report also highlights improvements in diversity and inclusion, with a measurable rise in the representation of women and underrepresented groups across the global workforce. On the philanthropic front, Lenovo’s community programmes have reportedly reached more than 25 million people between 2021 and 2026 by expanding access to technology and STEM education. Looking ahead, the company has announced the introduction of a new set of long-term sustainability aspirations to guide its next phase of operations.
