Recurrent Energy brings 150MW Carwarp solar park to commercial operation in Victoria

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., has announced that its 150MWac Carwarp Energy Park near Mildura, Victoria, has reached commercial operation ahead of schedule.

The solar facility is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft and is connected to the Australian National Electricity Market via Victoria’s 220 kV transmission network. The site also holds grid and planning approvals to integrate a 120 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to support future grid flexibility.

Featuring approximately 243,000 Canadian Solar TOPCon modules, the plant is projected to generate roughly 405 GWh of electricity annually—sufficient to supply 65,000 Australian households. The clean generation is expected to offset around 227,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, aiding Victoria’s regional decarbonisation targets.

During construction, the development supported approximately 300 jobs and will continue to generate local economic benefits throughout its operational lifecycle.

As part of its commercial partnership with Microsoft, Recurrent Energy has launched a dedicated community benefit fund under its Community CaRE initiative. Administered locally by Groundswell Giving and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), the fund will finance community-led climate and environmental programs, including initiatives spearheaded by First Nations groups.

Dylan Marx, Chief Executive Officer of Recurrent Energy, stated that completing the project ahead of schedule demonstrates the firm’s capacity to deliver infrastructure efficiently while establishing grid support and community investment.

Liz Fitch, Head of Corporate, External and Legal Affairs for Microsoft Australia and New Zealand, added that investments in project infrastructure like Carwarp are essential to support expanding clean electricity demand from digital sectors while reinforcing regional energy stability.
