DHL Group and solar technology leader LONGi Solar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy technologies and advance lower-emission logistics innovations across their global operations.
The strategic agreement focuses on implementing LONGi’s distributed solar technology, including its Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), across DHL facilities in Europe. Built on high-efficiency back contact technology, these systems are engineered to maximize energy yields on large commercial rooftops while maintaining long-term operational reliability.
The collaboration expands upon an established relationship between the two firms. DHL currently provides LONGi with Express, Ocean Freight, and Industrial Projects services, including specialized factory-moving support. Under the expanded framework, DHL will broaden its operational scope to accommodate LONGi’s growing global business, incorporating consumer logistics, marketing fulfillment, and specialized transport for LONGi’s battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio.
Key focus areas outlined in the agreement include:
- Infrastructure deployment: Integrating LONGi BIPV and distributed solar technologies into DHL logistics centers.
- Storage and hydrogen: Jointly developing solar-plus-storage applications and exploring renewable hydrogen technology for commercial logistics.
- Innovation piloting: Initiating early-access programs to test next-generation renewable energy concepts within DHL’s network.
- Supply chain scaling: Creating end-to-end logistics solutions to accelerate the global distribution of clean technology.
Michael Wiedemann, President of Energy Sector at DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation, noted that the collaboration demonstrates how renewable energy innovation and global logistics can mutually reinforce operational performance, adding that DHL will support LONGi’s market reach while decarbonizing its own facilities.
Alex Li, General Manager of Western Europe at LONGi, stated that the partnership establishes a strong platform to scale solar and storage solutions across complex commercial and industrial sites, supporting DHL’s broader sustainability goals.
