EFRAG has initiated a 30-day public consultation to gather European stakeholder input on three new proposed Pollution Topic Standards from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The consultation, which runs from 21 April to 21 May 2026, aims to refine the European response to GRI’s Exposure Drafts covering Air Pollution, Soil Pollution, and Critical Incidents.
A primary objective of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability between the GRI Standards and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). By aligning these frameworks, EFRAG seeks to reduce reporting complexity and create a more efficient, consistent environment for companies managing global disclosure requirements.
To facilitate this, EFRAG is inviting technical feedback through a structured survey and a dedicated workshop scheduled for 23 April 2026. The process targets companies currently preparing ESRS reports, pollution disclosure experts, and other industry professionals.
“The objective is to gather stakeholder feedback, with a particular focus on enhancing interoperability,” EFRAG stated, noting that the goal is to foster more consistent sustainability reporting for preparers.
Once the consultation closes, EFRAG will analyse the submissions to revise its Draft Comment Letter. The final position will be shared with the GRI in June 2026, ensuring the European perspective is represented in the finalisation of these global pollution standards.
